Graduations, Clothing & Memorabilia

    • Academic Dress

    All graduates wear the academic dress characteristic of the University from which they graduate. 

    The University of Tasmania academic dress is in the "oxford" style.

    Items of dress include:

    ·         Gown                    - either for PHD, Master, Bachelor or Diploma

    ·         Hood                     - Also known as colours.  Worn around the shoulders to depict degree/faculty

    ·         Stole                      - Satin 'scarfe' like item usually worn by graduands with a Diploma degree. Colour depicts faculty.

    ·         Trencher              - Hat worn by graduands of Master, Bachelor or Diploma degree. 

    ·         Bonnet                 - Tudor style bonnet worn by PHD and Doctorate graduands.
