Get to know your State Council President

The President is responsible for the effective governance and operation of the TUU and acts as the spokesperson for students on higher education issues to the University of Tasmania, all levels of government, the media and the broader public. The President is responsible for representing the interests and welfare of students at the University of Tasmania and is required to sit on a number of university committees, and is an ex-officio member of the TUU Board of Management. Together with the State Council, the Statewide President is responsible for the development of the TUU policy and procedures, setting the strategic direction for the TUU and meeting funding criteria as required by the University.

President of the Tasmania University Union is Clark Cooley who started his role on the 1st of December 2016

Clark grew up in Launceston and is a current undergraduate student of the University of Tasmania studying a Bachelor’s of Arts Business at the Sandy Bay campus. Clark is responsible for the effective governance and operation of the Union, leading the team of 41 representatives from across the university community in achieving this goal.

Clark currently serves as the Tasmanian State Branch President of the National Union of Students and previously the Campus President North for the TUU. He is an activate member of the societies community of the university at times holding several titles, including Secretary and Treasurer of the Business and Accounting Students Society, Accounting Representative of the Tasmania University Business Society, Executive Member of Oxfam on Campus and board member of the University of Tasmania Arts Society. He also makes regular contributions to the university’s student magazine Togatus.  Externally of the university community, Clark is a brand ambassador for Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, a member of the Rotary Club of Salamanca, and volunteer and member of the Australian Red Cross.

Students are invited to make an appointment to meet with the President to discuss matters affecting the University and the wider student community, including higher education issues, as well as social and welfare concerns. Appointments are available throughout the year.
