Student Housing & Accommodation

We know that 1 in 6 Australian University students regularly choose work over attending lectures. This speaks to the living pressures students are facing. For example, before COVID-19, rent rates in Hobart were equal to Melbourne rates.

Housing continues to be an issue as we still feel the impacts of this pandemic, with the impact of unemployment often forcing students to choose between paying their rent and eating.

We have been lobbying UTAS for reduced rent for UTAS Student Accommodation, and started the Helping Hands scheme to help ease some financial pressure.

Our student reps sit on the University’s Hardship and Equity Committees, and remain in regular contact with staff and student leaders within the UTAS Student Living community.

If you are struggling with a housing issue, or are facing any other kind of hardship, please get in touch with our Student Advocates.
